The Village Butcher occupies 7 Swan Street in the centre of Kingsclere and has served the village for close to a hundred years. It is family-run, and one of the owners, Alex, brings a fine-dining background to the counter. The shop deals in beef, lamb and pork alongside poultry and seasonal game such as venison, pheasant, partridge and rabbit, and makes its own sausages in more than thirty rotating varieties. There is a deli counter with cooked meats, cheeses, pastries and condiments, ready-to-cook meals, and fresh fish on Wednesdays. Meat is prepared on site to order. The shop opens Tuesday to Saturday and closes Sunday and Monday. It trades from this single Kingsclere premises rather than as part of a wider group, keeping traditional counter butchery going in the village.
