Thousand Islands Expeditions has run boat trips from St Davids since 1975, based from a booking office on Cross Square in the centre of the city. It holds sole landing rights to the RSPB's Ramsey Island nature reserve, running a daily ferry service as well as guided walks on the island with RSPB staff. Beyond Ramsey, trips cover puffin-watching around Skomer, gannet colonies at Grassholm, an evening cruise, a Fishguard Bay and Strumble Head wildlife run, fishing trips and a full-day pelagic expedition into deeper water. Given the length of time it has operated this stretch of coast, the crews know the tides and wildlife patterns around Ramsey Sound well, information passed on to passengers during crossings rather than left to a recorded commentary. It operates as a single independent company rather than a franchise.
