Tony Butterworth Cycles has sold and repaired bikes from the same premises on Catch Bar Lane, behind Sheffield Wednesday's Hillsborough ground, since Bert Beech set up shop there in 1945, converting a former car repair business to the post-war bicycle trade. Tony Butterworth took over in 1964 and ran it for nearly forty years until 2001, followed by Chris Faulkner until 2015; current owners Henry Nottage and Mike Andrews have run the shop since. The workshop sells mountain, road, touring, cyclocross, gravel, e-bikes and children's bikes from brands including Merida and Surly, alongside a repair and servicing operation that handles everything from punctures to full frame restorations and bespoke builds. During the pandemic the shop kept working as a repair point for NHS staff and key workers cycling to work, for which it received a community award. It remains independent, family-scale and single-site rather than part of a dealer chain, still trading under the name of its second owner rather than a rebrand.
