Wine Barrel has traded on Western Road since 1992, making it one of the longer-standing independent shops on the Brighton and Hove border. Mr Agnihotri has run the business since 2022, continuing a stock list built up over three decades that now runs to more than six hundred wines from producers around the world. The shelves also carry some five hundred spirits, including rare whiskies and brandies, and around three hundred and fifty craft beers, giving the shop a wider remit than a straightforward wine merchant. Staff give recommendations by taste rather than by pushing whatever is on offer that week, and the shop takes online orders for local and national delivery alongside walk-in trade. Opening hours run late into the evening most nights, useful for picking up a bottle on the way to a dinner elsewhere in Hove or Brighton.
