Ye Olde White Harte stands on the Quay at Burnham-on-Crouch, its jetty reaching over the River Crouch for drinkers who arrive by water as often as by road. The red-brick building dates to the 18th century and was refitted in 1957 around a maritime theme, giving the three small bar rooms their ship's-cabin panelling and a counter of narrow lapped wood strips. CAMRA lists the interior as being of national historic importance, noting that the sliding shutters on the bar counters are still in daily use. The pub has been owned by the same family since 1960 and is now run by the third generation. Rooms are let upstairs, and food is served alongside cask ale.
