Lisa McCabe throws and hand-builds pottery at Corranny Forest Pottery, a studio set on the edge of a private forest in the Sliabh Beagh hills outside Roslea, close to the Monaghan border. She fires much of her work using raku, pit and barrel methods, burying pieces in sawdust or open fires so that smoke and flame mark each pot differently, meaning no two finished pieces match. McCabe describes her forms as contemporary antiquities, drawing on Celtic carving alongside Mayan and Caribbean influences from her own travels. Alongside her own range of bowls, vessels and sculptural work, she runs small hand-building and wheel-throwing sessions for individuals and groups, including introductory taster classes booked in advance. The workshop has no shopfront in town; visitors arrange a time directly with McCabe before travelling out to the forest studio.
