The Fisher Theatre at 10 Broad Street opened on 28 February 1828 with a performance of The Belle's Stratagem. It was one of thirteen theatres built across East Anglia by David Fisher for his touring company, the Norfolk and Suffolk Company of Comedians. Today the single-site venue is run entirely by volunteers through the Bungay Arts and Theatre Society, a registered charity, and stages amateur dramatics, touring theatre, cinema screenings, live music and art exhibitions. The Georgian auditorium survives largely intact on Bungay's Broad Street. Rather than relying on commercial ownership, the theatre is kept going through ticket income and volunteer labour, with the society responsible for its upkeep as a working performance space rather than a museum piece.
