The business traces back to 1970, when two craftsmen founded the Gold & Silver Studio in Bath. Goldsmith and gemmologist Michael Parsons, who trained in jewellery design in the 1980s and spent three years making bespoke pieces in Sydney, took over the running of the studio in 1997 after settling back in the city. In 2006 he expanded into the current premises on Northumberland Place and renamed the business Gold & Platinum Studio. Pieces are designed and made by hand on site, with Michael working directly with customers on bespoke commissions rather than from a stock catalogue. The workshop and shop occupy the one address, continuing a Bath goldsmithing lineage now more than five decades old under a single roof.
