Electric Bear Brewing Co. has brewed from Unit 12 at The Maltings on Brassmill Lane since 2015, when home-brewer Chris Lewis built an 18-barrel plant on the western edge of Bath. The brewery takes its name from the old Bear Brewery that once stood on the corner of Wellsway in Bear Flat, combined with the makeshift electric element first used to heat the brewhouse kettle. Bathonians David and Mary Horner now own the business, which has expanded its brewing capacity three times since opening and produces IPAs, stouts, sours, and a small-batch gin under the Bear Gin label. The on-site taproom pours ten rotating beers and opens Thursday and Friday from 4pm to 10pm, Saturday 1pm to 10pm, and Sunday 1pm to 6pm.
