The Meyler family established Helmsman Guesthouse on Aberystwyth's Marine Terrace more than thirty years ago and continue to run it as a small bed and breakfast facing the promenade and Cardigan Bay. Rooms are fitted with king-size beds and bay windows that look directly over the sea wall, along with flat-screen televisions and complimentary tea and coffee, and each morning guests are served a cooked Welsh breakfast alongside cereals, toast and pastries in the ground-floor dining room. The building's position places it within easy walking distance of the castle grounds, the harbour and the university's old college building on the seafront, without the scale or turnover of the town's larger hotels. Bookings are taken directly through the family rather than a franchised booking system, and return visitors are common, drawn by the same rooms and the same welcome from one year to the next.
