Johnny Hunter founded Hunters Bakery in 1924 at the family's Market Street premises in Limavady, after taking over his late father's seed and grain merchant business at the age of fourteen and expanding it into a milling company. The bakery still occupies the same Market Street site and remains in Hunter family hands, now run by the fourth generation. Ovens installed in the early twentieth century stayed in use into the 1980s. The counter sells artisan and contemporary breads, pastries, gateaux and fresh cream cakes baked daily on the premises, alongside a coffee house and gift shop. At its height the business was among the north west's largest employers. Customers can eat in or take away sandwiches, lunches and desserts. It trades Tuesday to Saturday, closing on Sunday and Monday.
