Katharine Gleeson, known locally as Katie, runs her pottery studio from a shopfront on Leiston High Street, close enough to the Suffolk Heritage Coast that visitors from Aldeburgh and Thorpeness often book a session on their way through. She teaches one-to-one and in small groups, covering wheel throwing, hand building, decorating and glazing, with sessions running from a single two-hour taster to a full-day course. Every booking includes firing and glazing of the finished pieces, which are ready for collection or postage a few weeks later. Gleeson has worked as a potter for four decades and keeps finished stock, bowls, jugs and lamp bases among them, on open shelves at the front of the studio for casual buyers who wander in without booking a class. The wheels and kiln sit in view of the street through the shop window.
