Little Shop of Heroes opened on 1 December 2012 at 8 Maygate in Dunfermline, started by Alby and his wife Louise after Alby was left unemployed when his previous employer's entertainment retail chain closed half its stores. The couple noticed a vacant shop with a handwritten note in the window and decided to find out the rent. Dunfermline had no dedicated comic shop before it opened, so the pair began by stocking whatever weekly comics they could source and built up a graphic novel, manga, board game and collectibles range from there. The business is registered as Little Shop of Heroes Limited, company number SC497120, and was a finalist for the Eisner Spirit of Retail Award in 2023. It organises the annual Dunfermline Comic Con and Dunfermline International Comic Festival, and runs a not-for-profit Books for Schools scheme alongside creative workshops for children. It is open Tuesday to Saturday, with a street artisan market taking over Maygate on Sundays.
