Martin Player opened his butcher's shop on Park Road in Whitchurch in 2000 and remains the only Q Guild member butcher trading in Cardiff, a mark held by around 110 independent butchers across the UK who meet the guild's standards on sourcing and craft. About 90 percent of the meat sold is reared in Wales, and the shop makes its own sausages, burgers and cooked meats on site; its traditional beef burger took a top rating at the Q Guild's Smithfield Star Awards in 2020. The counter carries free-range poultry, game in season, and a small range of local cheeses and condiments alongside fresh meat. Staff give cooking and cut advice at the counter rather than leaving customers to self-select from a chiller. The shop trades from a single Whitchurch premises and has not opened further branches since 2000.
