Merchants House Cafe occupies the ground floor of the Merchant's House on Kirkcaldy High Street, a building dated to 1590 and recognised as the second-oldest townhouse in Scotland, once home to the ship-owning Law family. The family-run cafe serves coffee, home baking with a Polish influence, and simple lunches within the restored A-listed townhouse, one of two independent shops occupying the building after its lengthy restoration by the Scottish Historic Buildings Trust. In 2022 the cafe won Best New Coffee Shop in Fife, then went on to take the national Best New Coffee Shop title at Scotland's Business Awards. It trades from this single High Street address, its setting inside one of the town's oldest surviving buildings giving the cafe a history longer than most in Kirkcaldy.
