The Old Bakery Cafe occupies a pink-painted building on Dedham's High Street, close to the Essex-Suffolk border, and is run by owner Rosie Childs, who bakes the cakes served at the counter each day. The daytime menu runs from breakfast and brunch to a simple lunch list of sausage rolls, smoked salmon bagels, sourdough toasties and a house salad with a teriyaki dressing, alongside tea, coffee and cake. In summer the cafe adds a dog ice cream to the menu for visiting pets. The Good Food Guide added the cafe to its listings, praising the cakes and the straightforward daytime cooking. It opens Monday to Saturday from 9am to 3pm, with the kitchen closing an hour before the doors. The cafe sits among Dedham's small run of independent food shops and galleries, a short walk from the church and the water meadows painted by John Constable, and trades as a single site rather than part of a wider group.
