Pant-y-Gwydr occupies a former Victorian public house on the corner of Oxford Street, bought in 2007 by Michele and Jacques Abdou and reopened as a restaurant in July 2010 after nearly three years of restoration. The couple, who moved to Swansea from Paris and London, kept the building's stone walls and pine floors intact and retained its old name out of respect for its history as a pub. The kitchen serves classic French dishes such as escargots de Bourgogne and navarin d'agneau alongside a dedicated vegan menu, an unusual pairing for a restaurant of this style. Couscous Royale is a recurring favourite on the specials board. The dining room seats a modest number of covers, and the restaurant takes private bookings for groups on Sundays, with takeaway orders needing 24 to 48 hours' notice.
