Pestle &Mortar

Pestle & Mortar opened on Castle Street in August 2015 as Hinckley's first micropub, run by owner Sue in a single-roomed former shop unit. The bar keeps a short, changing line-up of cask ales served straight from the stillage behind the counter, with Bass a permanent fixture, alongside roughly fifteen ciders sourced locally and from Somerset, plus German pilsner, stout and brown ale. Food is limited to pork pies, Stilton and freshly made sandwiches rather than a kitchen menu. Dogs are welcome with treats and water bowls provided, and an upstairs area accommodates children outside weekend evenings. There is no music or fruit machines, just conversation across a compact room that has become a fixture of the town's real ale scene.
