Roger and Jane Brill bought Peterley in 1982, then a derelict poultry farm off Peterley Lane outside Great Missenden, and began selling home-grown fruit and vegetables from the farm gate. The site has grown into a working farm shop with its own butchery, which uses whole carcasses from local farms to hand-cut dry-aged steaks, joints, burgers and sausages. The cheese room stocks more than 40 varieties from Britain, Ireland and the Continent, chosen by an in-house cheesemonger. Daughter Katy's Wild Strawberry Café began life as a yurt before becoming a permanent building. Pick-your-own fruit, a nursery and a weekly fish stall round out the operation, now run day to day by Roger and Jane's daughters, Katy and Pip.
