The Regal opened on North Bridge Street in 1938 as an Art Deco cinema designed by Andrew David Haxton, and is now Category B listed, partly for its plasterwork. Since 2018 it has been run by Reconnect, a Scottish charity that has reopened the building as a working community venue rather than a static heritage site. The programme mixes professional touring shows with local productions, live music, comedy, children's events, dance and workshops, drawing audiences from across West Lothian. A phased restoration is under way, with plans to reinstate the balcony, open up the bar, add a fly tower for touring theatre and bring capacity up towards 500 seats. It sits in the centre of Bathgate, a few minutes from the train station and the town's shops, and is one of the few surviving cinemas of its era still in public use locally.
