Cheltenham's 1935 lido — Grade II listed, among the oldest in the country — has been run since 1996 by its own charity on a lease from the borough council, and in March 2026 that arrangement was extended almost beyond imagining: a reversionary lease beginning in 2056 and running to 2120, securing the pool into the next century. Around a million and a half pounds turns over yearly through swims at a fiver, season tickets and the cold-water winter season added in 2021, under unpaid trustees. The council owns the ground; the community, demonstrably, owns the institution.
