The ButchersArms, Rhiwbina

The Butchers Arms stands on Heol Y Felin in Rhiwbina, its current building dating from a 1932 rebuild to designs by Cardiff architect T. Elvet Llewellyn, replacing an earlier pub of the same name shown on the 1898 Ordnance Survey map. It was built during the inter-war 'improved public house' movement, when brewers added dining rooms, function space and family areas to compete with cinemas and teashops, and it features on Cardiff Council's draft local heritage list as an example of that style. Run today by landlords Paul and Michelle, it is Cask Marque registered for its real ale and keeps a restaurant, Grapevine@TheButchers, serving food alongside the bar. A built annexe hosts a regular comedy club on selected nights, drawing custom from beyond the immediate village.
