Pipes Brewery

Pipes brews from a small unit tucked behind the shops on Kings Road, reached down the same alleyway as the rest of Kings Road Yard in Pontcanna. Trading as Artisan Brewing Co. since 2008, the brewery makes continental-style lagers and pale ales without filtration, pasteurisation or additives, following recipes drawn from Czech and German brewing traditions rather than the hop-forward styles common elsewhere in Cardiff. The tap room, really just a counter with eight lines, opens Friday evenings and all day Saturday, when drinkers sit out in the yard or buy bottles to take home. Several beers are brewed to be vegan and gluten-free. New batches are introduced roughly monthly, so the board of what is pouring changes often enough that regulars check before turning up.
