The Nairn Bookshop occupies a High Street corner unit that Mavis Macdonald moved the business into in 2015, after taking over in 2009 from founders Alison and George Gray, who had also established the town's book and arts festival. Dr Samantha Holland, a former university lecturer and psychotherapist, bought the shop from Mavis Macdonald in 2023 and continues to run it as a general independent bookshop, ordering in fiction, non-fiction, crime, poetry and children's titles alongside Scottish and Gaelic-language stock. Customers can browse in person or order for click-and-collect through the shop's own website and the Bookshop.org affiliate platform, which routes a share of online sales back to independent shops. The shop remains single-site, trades from the same High Street premises today and continues to host author events tied to the Nairn Book and Arts Festival started by its founders.
