The Star,Alfriston

The Star began in 1345 as a religious hostel for monks and pilgrims travelling to Chichester Cathedral, with its current timbered frontage dating from the 15th century. Olga Polizzi and her daughter Alex Polizzi bought the Grade II listed High Street building in 2019, making it the third hotel in their Polizzi Collection alongside Hotel Tresanton in Cornwall and Hotel Endsleigh in Devon. The pair restored the roofs and windows and redecorated the hotel's 30 bedrooms, keeping the ancient beamed bar that opens directly onto Alfriston's high street. It reopened as a hotel in June 2021 once the renovation was finished. The building sits in the medieval village at the foot of the South Downs. Alex Polizzi is known for presenting Channel 5's The Hotel Inspector.
