Founded in 1997 by puppeteer Dennis Neale inside a former Victorian gentlemen's lavatory, the Theatre of Small Convenience entered the Guinness Book of Records in 2002 as the world's smallest commercial theatre, seating twelve people or sixteen standing. The venue closed in 2017 on Neale's retirement, then reopened in October 2025 after a volunteer-led restoration, now run as a community interest company staging puppetry, storytelling and small-scale performances such as Ghost Stories of M.R. James and The Nutcracker. The single-site venue on Edith Walk remains one of Malvern's most distinctive attractions, its scale as much a part of the draw as its programme. Tickets are sold individually through the venue's own booking system rather than a larger box office network.
