The Winchester Bookshop has traded from a passageway off St George's Street since 1991, when four local book dealers pooled their stock to open it. Three floors hold antiquarian, secondhand, vintage and nearly new books, with the ground floor given over mostly to older and rarer volumes and prints. Booksellers with overlapping but distinct specialisms work the counter between them, so a question about local history or a first edition tends to find someone who actually knows the answer. The shop sits down a narrow passage near the Parchment Street junction, easy to walk past and easy to lose an hour in once found. It has kept the same trade since 1991 while shops around it have changed hands repeatedly.
