Old Kiln Studio occupies a building at Lower Ratlake in Hursley, between Winchester and Romsey, that appears on an 1867 map already marked as "the Kiln". Nadia Hopkins runs the pottery studio today, teaching evening wheel classes through the week and running weekend throwing taster days for people who have never touched clay. The studio is built around a bank of electric wheels and a single kiln, with an extruder available for anyone working by hand rather than on the wheel. Sessions run in small groups so Hopkins can move between students rather than lecture from the front. Its setting away from the main road, down a lane past Hursley, keeps the studio quiet enough to hear the wheels turning, which is largely the point.
