David Thomas, a Master Goldsmith trained at the Royal College of Art, founded Thomas Goldsmiths on Pump Street in Derry's Cathedral Quarter in 1996. A piece of his work is held in the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum. The workshop still makes jewellery on the premises, working alongside goldsmith Lynn Hutchinson, and specialises in bespoke commissions such as engagement and wedding rings, remodelled heirloom pieces using customers' own gold, and engraving for personalised gifts. The shop also services watches and stocks contemporary designs from European and Irish makers. Couples can book a wedding ring workshop experience to help shape their own bands under supervision. Thomas Goldsmiths trades Monday to Saturday, 9.30am to 5.30pm.
