Bishop's Gate Hotel occupies a Grade B1 listed building on Bishop Street, built in 1899, inside Derry's city walls in the Cathedral Quarter. Owner Ciaran O'Neill opened the hotel in 2016 after restoring the Edwardian building, which now holds 30 guestrooms, nine apartments, the Wig and Gown restaurant and champagne bar, the Hervey Library and the Northern Counties Ballroom for functions. O'Neill continues to run the hotel personally alongside newer ventures, including a 2026 appointment as managing director of the Bedford Hotel in Belfast, a separate project under RFM Hotels. The Derry building's original stonework and joinery were retained through its conversion from Edwardian office block to hotel.
