Claire Howell opened Vinyl and Vintage on Cleveland Street after some three decades of dealing in records, having started collecting following her first paper round at the age of twelve. The shop pairs her own record stock, traded as Its For You, with Smudge Vintage Clothing, combining new and secondhand vinyl across funk, soul and rock with music memorabilia and vintage clothing under one roof. It has taken part in Record Store Day for more than a decade, with queues in recent years including customers camping outside overnight ahead of exclusive releases. The shop remains a single, independently owned unit, unconnected to any wider chain, and Howell continues to run it personally, sourcing collections from across the West Midlands and describing it as the city's premier record shop.
