Wanted Records trades from a unit inside St Nicholas Market, Bristol's eighteenth-century covered market, with a further listed address on the adjoining High Street. Owner John Stapleton and a small team of collectors stock psych, reggae, African, soul and jazz vinyl, deliberately leaving out metal, picture discs, techno and chart music. Founded in 2009, the shop has been called one of Britain's best record shops by Vogue and one of the UK's best by Hi-Fi Choice. Stapleton has said the shop is run by people who love the job rather than purely for the money, and that shows in how the racks are curated rather than simply stacked by genre. Customers hunting for rare pressings are as likely to turn up obscure library music or Brazilian releases as familiar reissues.
