White Horse Boats has hired narrowboats from Devizes Wharf since 1986, run as a family business by David and Caron. The company keeps four holiday boats and three day boats, cruising only eastwards from Devizes along the Kennet and Avon Canal towards the Vale of Pewsey and Savernake Forest, away from the sixteen locks of Caen Hill. Day hire requires no experience, with full tuition given before departure and a 24-hour call-out service during the trip. Holiday hire runs from March to October on boats designed and maintained by the company itself. David began boating as a child in 1976 and later set up a second hire base, Oxfordshire Narrowboats, in 2001, though the Devizes Wharf operation remains its own single site.
