Angels is a one-room micropub on Belper's Market Place, opened in the town in 2018 as an alternative to the bigger managed pubs nearby. There is no bar in the conventional sense; drinks are served from a small counter backed by a chiller and a stillage of casks rather than pumped through long lines. The pub keeps to real ale and real cider only, rotating around eight cask beers alongside at least ten ciders, with a gluten-free option kept on permanently. CAMRA's Amber Valley and South Derbyshire branch named it Cider Pub of the Year in 2020 and again in 2023, and Mild Trail Winner in 2019. It opens only from Wednesday afternoon through Sunday, closing Monday and Tuesday. The freehold is held privately rather than by a pub company, keeping the beer list independent of brewery ties.
