Surveyed
Up a drangway off Market Street, in the old Falmouth Working Men's Club, Dominic Fraser Smith and Alice Sommerlad have run a pub that is also a working second-hand bookshop since December 2012 — 'hard to say if this is a pub with books or a bookshop with beer,' as CAMRA's surveyors put it. Six handpumps pour a constantly changing list with no regular beers and real cider alongside, while the books — literary fiction and serious non-fiction, second-hand and remaindered — stand shelved bookshop-fashion around the drinkers. Board games and pinball are free. The bookshop began life in a garage in Suffolk before it found Cornwall; the freehold belongs to the owners' own company, tied to nobody.
