Black Lodge Brewing has brewed from Kings Dock Street in the Baltic Triangle since late 2015, a small-batch operation started by a group of brewers and bar operators rather than a single named founder. The taproom sits inside the brewery itself, pouring cask and keg versions of the same beers straight from the tanks a few metres away, among them a Saaz-hopped Baltic Pilsner and a pale ale built around Citra, Simcoe and Mosaic hops. The room opens four days a week, filling with food from resident traders rather than running its own kitchen, and beers also go out by monthly subscription. The industrial unit keeps its bare concrete floor and exposed pipework, a working brewery first and a bar second. It has since opened a smaller second taproom in West Kirby, though brewing stays fixed at this Liverpool site.
