Birkenhead Cycles has traded on Conway Street since the 1950s, when the business began supplying steel-framed bicycles to Birkenhead's cycle-commuting workforce. It is now run by the third generation of the same family and is understood to be the oldest cycle business on the Wirral peninsula still under its founding family's ownership. The shop sells road, mountain, gravel and hybrid bikes from brands including Scott, Whyte, Marin and Trek, alongside an in-house workshop staffed by full-time mechanics equipped with Park Tools servicing equipment for repairs, safety checks and warranty work. Registered with Companies House as Birkenhead Cycles Limited, the shop also offers cycle-to-work scheme purchases and e-bike servicing through the Bosch dealer network. It keeps shorter hours midweek and is closed on Sundays. The Conway Street shop remains a single-site operation rather than part of a wider retail chain, distinguishing it from the national cycle retailers that have opened in and around Birkenhead in recent decades.
