Canterbury Punting Company runs guided tours on the River Stour from a base on Water Lane, next to the Mooring cafe bar in Canterbury. It was founded by Ashley Dalton, now a director of the registered company, and has operated for more than fourteen years, offering shared tours, private hire, nature trips and evening ghost tours in classic hand-built wooden punts. Guides steer the punts along the river through the city centre, narrating the history of the surrounding cathedral precincts and medieval streets from the water. Trips typically run for around 45 minutes, with private and themed bookings taken separately through the company's own website. The business trades independently of the other punting operators working the same stretch of river, and takes part in local river-conservation efforts along the Stour. Bookings are seasonal, with a reduced timetable running through the winter months.
