Kim and Keeley opened Coffee & Fandisha on Brick Street in the Baltic Triangle in July 2014, taking their cue from the Ethiopian coffee ceremony, where beans are roasted in front of guests and served alongside popcorn. The name is a rough translation of coffee and popcorn, and the room keeps its exposed brick and industrial fittings from the building's warehouse days. The counter turns out flat whites, fresh-pressed juices and cakes baked on site, with a lunch menu of salads, a vegetarian full English and toasties, plus a short list of craft beer and wine. It closes on Sundays, when the surrounding warehouses empty out. Regulars treat the long communal table as an informal office as much as a café counter.
