East Nook Studio occupies the first floor of a former malt barn dating from 1845, reached through a courtyard off South Street in St Andrews, behind the MacTatties cafe. Designer-maker Alana Peden founded the studio in 2014, teaching silver jewellery making alongside ceramics and other crafts to beginners and experienced makers. Classes run most days of the week, from short taster sessions to full-day intensives, and Peden also takes bespoke commissions for rings, pendants and other silverware made on site. The studio is a single working space rather than a franchise operation, and forms part of the Scottish Contemporary Art Network. Its position in the old malt barn, away from the main shopping streets, gives students a quiet working environment for hands-on tuition in traditional metalworking techniques.
