Willie Fisher and Davie Donaldson, brothers-in-law, opened their Cupar bakery in 1919 on First World War demob money, and the fifth generation runs it now — the Milne siblings Chloe, Ben and Jade, who took over from their uncles in 2020. The firm holds a Royal Warrant, granted in 2011, and its most famous creation, the fudge doughnut invented by Sandy Milne in the 1980s, has a devotion in Fife and Dundee that borders on the religious. Seven shops across Cupar, St Andrews and Dundee, around a hundred and fifty staff, and a new St Andrews flagship opening in 2026 to replace a seventy-year site — a family bakery grown to venerable scale without leaving family hands, landed here on the same reasoning as Whitby's Botham's. A hundred and six years; still one family; still the doughnut.
