Howe Beer Project occupies Unit 4 of Balmalcolm Den, the former home of the Muddy Boots farm shop, opened in June 2025 by Kevin Kelly and his wife Julia McCarthy. Kelly grew up in Fife and moved to Colorado in 2012, where he met McCarthy and spent a decade in the state's taproom culture before the couple returned to Scotland in 2022 to build a brewery and taproom of their own. Beer is brewed on site in small batches on a Moravek carbonation and canning system, bought with a £25,000 Start Up Loan, and served fresh through a ten-tap bar. The taproom has a social hall with an open fire, an indoor beer garden with cornhole, and hosts live music and food trucks. Opening hours run Thursday 4pm to 9pm, Friday and Saturday 2pm to 10pm, Sunday 1pm to 7pm.
