Fridge of Plenty opened on Crouch Hill in December 2020, founded by Julia Kirby-Smith, a former Channel 4 News producer who left broadcast journalism to set up an urban farm shop after a summer spent growing food in Kent. The shop sources organic vegetables, milk, eggs, bread and cheese from small producers within delivery range of London, alongside English wine and low-intervention beers. Customers can buy loose in-store or order weekly and fortnightly vegetable boxes for collection or local delivery. The business runs as a profit-for-purpose company: staff hold shares, decisions are weighed against community and environmental impact alongside profit, and unsold stock at the end of the day is given to people in the area who need it rather than thrown out. Packaging is kept to a minimum, with paper bags and refillable containers preferred over plastic. The shop sits a short walk from Crouch Hill Overground station on the north side of the parade.
