Surveyed
The Southampton Arms on Highgate Road is an ale and cider house with a strict creed: only beer and cider from small independent UK breweries, no lager, no spirits, no wifi, no television. Bought in 2009 by Pete Holt, who went on to found Howling Hops, it keeps a hand-written tap list and a stripped-back Victorian interior that CAMRA rates as nationally important. Its custodians call themselves exactly that. A pub built entirely around independent British beer, in a plain and perfect little room. Order whatever is chalked up and top; it will be good.
