Hatfield House has been run by the Cassidy family since Kevin Cassidy, who arrived in Belfast from Draperstown at eighteen, bought the pub outright in 1976. His son Kieran has worked behind the bar for twenty-six years, and two more sons, John and Stephen, along with brother-in-law Chris Flannagan, are also involved in running it. The building dates to about 1870 and was converted into a pub by William Thomas Braithwaite; its hand-carved horseshoe bar was built in 1871 by the same craftsmen who later built the ill-fated Titanic's own horseshoe bar, since lost. The pub has since added a Liquor Library and a rooftop garden. Hatfield House is known for live music and live sport, and trades independently under Cassidy family ownership rather than as part of a pub company.
