Howling Wolf Artisan Bakery and Café operates from West Strand on Whitehaven's harbourside, a short walk from the Beacon museum. It is run by Benjamin Ardelean, a trained chef, and his wife Carmina, who moved to Whitehaven from Birmingham to open the business in 2023 after first trading as a mobile bakery serving English and Romanian bakes around the town. Bread, cakes and pastries are baked on site each day, and the café serves breakfast and lunch using local suppliers where possible, with coffee and tea sourced from within the Lake District. Benjamin has since introduced evening fine-dining sittings alongside the daytime café menu, drawing on his earlier career in fine-dining kitchens. The café received a VisitEngland accolade for quality food and drink in October 2024. It sits within Whitehaven's historic Georgian harbour, close to the Rum Story exhibition.
