Menu Gordon Jones is exactly what its name says: the chef Gordon Jones, once head chef at the Royal Crescent Hotel, cooking a daily-changing surprise tasting menu in a small room at Bear Flat, above the city. There is no choosing — you eat what he has decided to cook that day, described as it arrives — and it is his name on the door and, largely, his hands on the plates. It has become one of the more talked-about independent restaurants in the country on exactly that basis: personal, inventive, unrepeatable. Book ahead, arrive hungry, and let the chef decide. That is the deal, and the pleasure.
