The New Inn stands on Woodlawn Street in Whitstable, a backstreet pub dating from the 1830s that its own history describes as the town's first purpose-built pub. It was built to serve the railway workers, dockers and fishermen who lived in the surrounding cottages, and etched glass marking where several small bars once stood is still visible along its long, narrow bar. The pub now runs a rotating guest gin each week alongside its spirits list, and hosts a Friday-night pizza service from Old School Pizza. Quiz nights, darts and pool remain part of the weekly routine, continuing the pub's long-standing role as a gathering place for the surrounding streets.
