Nicholsons has traded from the same shop on Park View since 1914, when Charles Nicholson opened it after returning from railway-building work in America. His son Charlie trained as a master butcher and took over in the 1950s, and Charlie's son Doug later extended the premises and added an in-house bakery. The business now sits with Kathryn, Charles's great-granddaughter, who joined after studying food science and took full control in 2022; her cousin Mark heads production. The counter runs beef, pork and lamb through to sausages, burgers, pies and roasting joints, with bread and cakes baked on site each day. Four generations of the same family have run the shop on Park View, a rarity among butchers on the Tyneside coast.
