Night Owl Books opened on Bridge Street in East Linton in April 2022, in a shop that had previously traded as an antiques business run by owner Rebecca Wall's mother. Wall, who managed a London art gallery before moving to the village, stocks fiction and non-fiction for adults and children with a particular focus on nature writing, alongside a curated range of gifts made by small Scottish producers. The shop runs book clubs, author events and children's activities from its single-room premises, functioning as a community meeting point as much as a retailer. It is open Thursday to Monday, closed midweek, and has been named among the best independent bookshops in Scotland by regional and national press. Stock is hand-picked rather than centrally supplied, with staff recommendations displayed alongside titles. Its focus on nature and place-based writing reflects the village's setting on the Tyne Water and distinguishes it from general high-street bookshops.
